Facebook challenges TikTok
After taking on Snapchat Stories by introducing Instagram Stories, and shuttering its first attempt to clone TikTok, (RIP Lasso) Facebook has responded to the growing threat of TikTok by introducing Reels to their Instagram platform. Facebook describes Reels as “a new way to create and discover short, entertaining videos on Instagram.”
We describe it as a rapid response to TikTok’s dominance in the short-form video space – one that could be very successful as nations grapple with the alleged security risk of the Chinese-owned app.
The takeaway for brands? As Forbes said, “there’s never been a more pertinent time to invest in short-form video.”
Wellington-based Marsello buys Auckland company Goody
Wellington-based software-as-a-service company, and Acumen client, Marsello has acquired New Zealand loyalty platform start-up, Goody, to help it expand and move into new sectors.
Marsello, formerly called Collect, started in 2014 by powering retailers’ rewards programmes. Since then, it has evolved to become a virtual marketing assistant for retailers and hospitality businesses.

“I move, That the House do now adjourn until 2 p.m. on Tuesday, 18 August 2020.” With this short sentence Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern yesterday bought the term of this current Parliament to an end and started the Adjournment debate and the 2020 election campaign.
This Parliamentary formality is an opportunity for the leaders of the political parties to review the achievements (or otherwise) of the term and set out their stall for the coming election campaign.
Kiwis urged to be prepared for a second wave, told to have masks on hand.
While we all enjoy our state of being relatively free from COVID-19, the government has urged Kiwis to keep face masks in their emergency kits. The directive seems to be having its desired effect with mask manufacturers reporting a boom in orders.
Let’s all wear them correctly.
